the christmas tree

Last Sunday we went to Butler's Orchard to get our family Christmas tree for the year. Matt chopped it down while the kids built forts with tree branches and chased each other in and out of the rows. By the time we left the sun had gone down and there was a bonfire lit. The air smelled like pine and woodsmoke and wind. As we drove back home we listened to Christmas music, all of us very tired and happy.
